Let’s take a minute to admire the adorable dimples on these kiddos! Ok, thanks.

I have been photographing this family since Big Brother was a newborn. Watching these boys grow over the last few years has been a joy. These ages can be tricky regarding family sessions, but this family seems to have it figured out. Snack breaks, funny noises, movement, distraction techniques, and going with the flow are essential.

Whenever I photograph a young family, I always make it a point to give Mom and Dad their moment. After all, they don’t get many of them in this particular stage of life. My assistant entertains the kiddos off to the side while Mom and Dad get a mini date night moment, even if only for a couple of minutes. Then it’s right back to business! A typical prompt I give my younger clients is to “touch your nose to mommy’s nose.” Every time, without fail, it results in a final image like the one on the bottom left of this collage. Sure, it’s not exactly what I was going for, but that’s not the point; it makes for the most adorable candid moment between a parent and their little one.

As tricky as photographing this age can be, it’s also the most adorable! Clapping, smooching brother, and squishing two little tushies on a box doesn’t get much cuter than this! Tickles and snuggles are also a great way to get everyone close, happy, and engaged. As much as these boys have grown since I’ve known them, one thing that hasn’t changed is their love for each other. And we’ll all hang onto that for as long as we can.
