Out & About in Frederick with the Hendersons

When it comes to family portraits, there’s no “one size fits all” solution.  As a photographer, I love working with people who aren’t afraid to step outside of the traditional poses and really have fun during our photoshoots!  The Hendersons definitely did that when we took a walk around Frederick, Maryland last fall.  Although no one was more excited that day than Tinkerbell.

In case you were wondering, Tinkerbell is the youngest Henderson at only three years old.  She’s also friendly, furry, and walks on all fours—because dogs are family, too!  Only a few weeks before our scheduled session, this adorable pup had surgery.  After weeks of vet-order bedrest, she was thrilled to be out and about on a beautiful day.

Trey is definitely more reserved than his furry sibling, but I still was able to capture a few precious moments between the two.  He made me work for each and every smile on camera.  Fortunately, though, I’m not afraid of a challenge!  Plus, his genuine expressions give insight on the family dynamic—not to mention the love—that the Hendersons share.

Throughout the course of the day, we changed things up a bit.  As Tinkerbell got to wander, we took some fun portraits that only parents can fully appreciate.  The mother and son options are some of my favorite from 2019 (and not just because of Mom’s awesome tattoos!).

Even Reveal Day with this family was an entertaining experience.  Everyone enjoyed seeing the highlights from this outdoor shoot and deciding what to do with them.  The Hendersons actually opted to turn their family portraits into a beautiful custom-made woodblock wall that I look forward to seeing inside their home.  With a display like that, not only will they have the memories of that day together.  But also, they’ll have a stunning family heirloom that they can share with future generations.
